For this session, our Team Advisor, Tally Thompson, alongside a visiting filmmaker with experience in lighting, coached the students about the basics of lighting. The students were first given Aputure lights, shown 3 stills from 3 different movies, and asked to figure out how to light them.

The students practiced and attempted to light each other to look like the given stills. After the attempt, the students were given the lesson about how lighting works, for example, what the key light, backlight, and fill light are and their purposes. The students – after learning the types of lighting and how to do them – were tasked with trying to light those same stills again.
